As we transition into fall, many of us are already longing for the upcoming holidays – Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The weather, the autumn leaves, the pumpkin patches, and the food, all bring us that cozy holiday feeling. At Grace Like Rain, the change in season and holidays are a reminder of something bigger: the need for community. Holidays are times for connection, love, family, and sharing with your community. But these elements are often missing in the lives of so many families – especially right now in the midst of COVID.
Whether it be time poverty, lack of resources, or lack of stability, families in crisis often don’t have the same opportunities for community connection. Without community and a sense of belonging, you cannot grow. It is for this reason that Michelle Conner founded Grace Like Rain back in 2016. She recognized that intangible needs are often just as important, or more so, than physical needs, in overcoming crises. This is why Grace Like Rain provides families with opportunities for connection through our classes, community events, coaching, mentorships, and friendships.
Though these times are challenging and may present barriers to gathering and connection, Grace Like Rain wanted to be sure and stay true to our mission and cause by allowing families to safely gather with us and sustain a sense of community.
Cross Timbers will be hosting a Fall Family Fun event this Saturday, October 24th, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Entry is free with a canned food donation! Come and visit Grace Like Rain or volunteer with us!
Our Thanksgiving Potluck, on Saturday, November 14th, will bring our families needed community. This family friendly event will provide food and activities for families to spend time together and share experiences.
On December 13th, we will also be hosting our annual Christmas event to bring a wonderful, gift-filled holiday experience to our families. Please stay tuned on our website, social media, and Amazon to explore our wishlist items and see how you can contribute this year!
We want to remind you to stay involved however you can and keep finding this sense of community. Our community members, volunteers, coaches, and donors are the foundation of our organization and the purpose behind what we do. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please visit our volunteer page or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Susan Cousins, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that all of the events mentioned above will follow local safety and health guidelines for a safe and fun time!
Happy fall and thank you for being a part of the Grace Like Rain community! We are thankful for you!
