In honor of Grace Like Rain’s second Faith and Finance graduation, we want to share some beautiful words from our Director of Life Skills classes, Felicia Smith, on the importance and life changing effects of this course.

Financial literacy is not something that we are born with, but something that is learned. Either early or later in life. For me, it was a little later in life. There is something about understanding the value of every cent you come in contact with that makes you feel more in control of your own life. All individuals deserve and crave this sense of control and empowerment in their lives.

Faith and Finances is important because you learn what this control feels like in the healthiest way.  Faith and Finance students experience managing their own financial resources outside of the added elements of trauma, crisis, and destitution. Though this class may not change your financial situation immediately, it provides a foundation for an individual to build on and restores their hope in themselves.

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.”

Proverbs 2:6

Another perspective introduced in this class is equally crucial: how God sees your financial resources. Many people have no idea what is coming in and going out of their family unit. This program introduces a system that helps them to gain that knowledge and take power back over their own resources. With knowledge and community, these individuals gain the expertise needed to manage their own resources.  Knowledge has power, and everyone is deserving of this knowledge.

Our next round of Faith & Finances classes will be held first of next year and we are looking to fill our volunteer positions!

For each of the participants in this class, we are in need of a financial coach. While we teach the tools in this course, our financial coaches come alongside those participating to help encourage them along the way. We will provide all necessary training for this opportunity and need your help to support our families as they progress through the class.

Each week that class is held, we are also in need of volunteers to provide childcare and meals. These volunteers are a true blessing to our families and allow them to participate whole heartedly in the class without worrying about childcare or dinner that evening.

If you are interested in getting involved with volunteering for this course, please reach out to Felicia Smith at fsmith@glrtx.org. Thank YOU for being His hands and feet.
