Danny and I agreed when we moved to North Texas in 2013, I would not need or have to go to work. I wanted to be available for my mom when she needed me. Then came the grandbabies and I wanted to be available for my son and daughter-in-law when needed. Had I not had the help of my family when the boys were little, I’m not sure Danny and I would have made it.
Now that I have the opportunity to stay home, what better way to serve than give of my time?!? I have enjoyed loving on a few of the sweet kids while their mom went on an interview. Serving these families can be as simple as taking a young mom to a job interview, picking up diapers and wipes (and some chocolate for a stressed out mom) or shopping seasonal clearance sales for clothes to be put away for families in need. These are a few ways to jump in and serve.
Everything you do, no matter how big or small, adds up to big things for the families in need. The things we take for granted can put a big smile on the face of these moms and their little ones. Having the little ones in my house and seeing the joy on their face makes my heart happy.
Another think I can tell you is, after helping a mom this week and seeing the things she has to do just to get around with her kids breaks my heart!! I have had my skepticism about some using the system, but after spending some time with this family this week, I truly believe she appreciates the help and wants to improve the life for her kids. I’m thankful GLR is there for her, and I have been blessed to be able to help when needed.
