15K for Families-Funding Cuts Affecting FamiliesBlogUncategorized

15K for Families – Day 9

A Denton Family Story

Catherine* is in her 70s and has been experiencing chronic homelessness while living with several disabilities. Along with experiencing seizures, she is also loosing her eye sight. COPD and Arthritis have truly affected her mobility. Years of pain and unstable living conditions have contributed to her declinign mental and emotional health.

Our Street Outreach team was able to connect her to emergency and temporary housing with COVID funding.

Catherine’s Mental Health makes it hard for her to remember some of her most important information i.e., where she was born, where she was married, and even log in information that is critical to getting Social Security documentation. We had to start from scratch in the middle of a pandemic when most government offices were closed. Waiting on critical documents to come in from other states, took months. Finally, after many months we were able to determine eligibility for an enrollment into Turning Point and are now waiting on an approval from a place we put an application in last week. This has been a long road to get to this point!

How GLR/GH can Help.

GLR/GH can help by keep her in the hotel until we get her moved into her apartment therefore she does not have to start the cycle all over again.
